Messe Leipzig
The trade fair in Leipzig is believed to be the oldest in the world, with a tradition going back over 800 years. Leipzig first became involved in Trade Fairs in 1497, when the Emperor Maximilian 1 conferred the Imperial Trade Fair Privilege on the city. Leipzig was positioned on an important trading route that linked the Mediterranean with the North of Europe and the Eastern areas under Slavic domination with the realm of the Franks in the West. The route from Bergen (now perhaps better known as Norway) to Leipzig was called the Old Salt Road, and extended to Rome through the Via Imperil. In 1895 Leipzig hosted the first ever sample fair and earned its name as "The Mother of all Trade Fairs".
Leipzig today is still very much geared towards its trade fairs and since the opening of the new trade fair centre in 1996 it is now one of the youngest and most modern in Europe. Many of the 35 trade and consumer events organized by Messe Leipzig provide a gateway to Middle and Eastern Europe. Leipzig has repeatedly won an award as the No 1 service provider among all German exhibition centres and our exhibitors and visitors will feel welcome and very well looked after.
Leipzig is also famous for its architecture, monuments, art and restaurant culture and is surrounded by beautiful countryside.
